1951-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-001

Description

Three D mintmark impressions are documented on this 1951-D Lincoln Wheat Cent: the primary D, a secondary D displaced southwest, and a tertiary D displaced east, earning the variety its designation D/D/D Southwest, East. RPM-001 is the primary cataloged repunched mintmark for this date and represents one of the more commonly encountered 1951-D RPM varieties in the series. Die markers are cross-referenced as UVC-355 and DMR-002. Stage A shows both obverse and reverse at early die state. Stage B has both faces at mid-die state. Stage C presents the most diagnostically notable condition: a BIE die break at late die state — the well-known class of Lincoln Cent die failure where a die chip forms between the B and E of LIBERTY, creating the visual impression of a small additional letter I — along with a late-die-state reverse. The BIE die break at Stage C provides an additional identification layer for late-state examples of this die.
