1950 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-013

Description

1950-S WRPM-013 is a repunched mint mark on the 1950-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S West: the secondary S lies west of the primary. Obverse Stage A has a mass of fine N-S scratches across much of the date area, stronger inside the 9 and above the 1's upper left corner; two parallel scratches on the lower bust running up from the second shoulder fold's front; and many fine NW-SE scratches through TRUST. Stage B adds a crack heading NE from the bust, low on its back; a scratch heading NNE from the second shoulder fold at its lower right; a NNW-SSE field scratch to the right of the nose tip; a short gouge heading SW from the N of IN, at the middle of its left side; a dot above the upper vertical bar of that N; a gouge within the right opening of GOD's G; a very light E-W crack in the upper hair under the E of WE; a light scratch heading SE from beneath the right crossbar of LIBERTY's T; a light scratch heading NNE from between the upper RT of LIBERTY; and a strong gouge (dot) in the field, well below LIBERTY's TY. On Stage B the scratches inside the 9 and from the 1 are still present, as is one of the two parallel scratches at the second shoulder fold's front. On the reverse, Stage A has a mass of N-S scratches over most of the central reverse; a thinned upper right vertical bar on CENT's N, left by heavy abrasion to remove a die clash; a strong scratch heading south from the lower left arm of AMERICA's R; many N-S scratches inside CENT's C, two stronger ones coming from its upper right inner curve; distinctive WNW-ESE scratches across the O of OF on its right side, some crossing the lower F; inverted V-shaped scratches inside the last S of STATES, in its lower left opening; and a strong dot just left of CENT's lower T. On Stage B the abraded area on the N and the dot by the T are still present; most of the N-S scratches have been abraded away, though the two stronger ones in the C remain; and new are a dot along the I of UNITED at its upper left, a few light N-S scratches inside CENT's C, and a dot inside the E of ONE, in its lower left opening.
