1950 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-009

Description

1950-S WRPM-009 is a repunched mint mark on the 1950-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S/S West and West: the S was punched three times, with both extra impressions lying west of the primary. Obverse Stage A has many light parallel scratches heading north from around the date's 1 and 9; a strong scratch heading south from the 9's lower tail, just left of the mint mark; two scratches heading south from either side of the date's 5; a clash at the neck; many N-S scratches on the back of the neck and under the ear; and many N-S scratches crossing LIBERTY, some reaching north as far as GOD's G. Stage B adds a die dot in the field just right of the nose's bridge, a SW-NE gouge within the lower opening of GOD's G, and a tiny dot between that G and the O, low down. On the reverse, Stage A has a gouge (dot) above and between UNITED's U and N; a dot along the I of UNITED at its upper left; a light N-S scratch through the left tip of the T's crossbar in CENT; a light scratch heading north from STATES' E at its upper left; a long scratch heading south from the lower left corner of CENT's N; two parallel N-S scratches left of the right wheat stem's base; and a light scratch heading south from the middle of the C's lower curve in CENT. On Stage B the dot above the U and N of UNITED remains, with a new and stronger dot north of it, and a tiny N-S crack appears at the upper left of the second kernel on the left wheat stalk. John Bordner submitted Stage A and David Bloomberg Stage B. CONECA lists it as RPM #9 and Coppercoins as 1950S-1MM-009.
