1950 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-003

Description

1950-S WRPM-003 is a repunched mint mark on the 1950-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S South: the secondary S lies south of the primary. Obverse Stage A: many scratches heading generally NW through and above the 1 and 9 of the date, ending in the field ahead of the chin; several short scratches joining the upper chin to the lower lip; many scratches heading north from above the T and Y of LIBERTY; a long scratch heading south from below the L; a short scratch below the V of VDB; several short N-S scratches in the upper hair, below and SW of WE; several short N-S scratches beneath the front hair curl; a N-S scratch joining the bridge of the nose to the eyebrow; several short N-S scratches in front of the eye; and a long field scratch right of the front hair curl that runs south to a point right of the nose tip. On Stage B the scratches near the 1 and 9 remain but are weak, as are a few of the N-S scratches in the upper hair; every other Stage A marker has worn away. On the reverse, Stage A has several scratches heading south from a point left of CENT's upper C through the N and U of UNITED, ending below the O of OF; a strong but short scratch heading south from beneath the F of OF; many parallel scratches heading south off the E of ONE's right side and through the T of CENT; a long scratch heading south from between the B and U of PLURIBUS into the field just over the top of the N in ONE; and a NW-SE scratch crossing the lower part of the U and the M's left arm in UNUM. Stage B adds a very light scratch heading north from the E of AMERICA at its upper left and stopping in the field left of the first S of STATES, near its top, and a tiny die dot in the field beside the last S's upper opening, to the right. John Bordner submitted Stages A and B. CONECA lists it as RPM #3 and Coppercoins as 1950S-1MM-003.
