1950 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-001

Description

1950-S WRPM-001 is a repunched mint mark on the 1950-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S West: the secondary S lies west of the primary. Obverse Stage A: several NNE/SSW scratches on both sides of the 1 in the date; a scratch heading NW from the top of the hair between the E of WE and the first T of TRUST; a row of short, heavy gouges rising north off the back of the neck, just beneath the hair at its lower back; a strong die dot along the back of the vest, SSE of the lower Y in LIBERTY; many parallel NNE-SSE scratches above and below BERTY; a series of fine N-S scratches below the tip of the chin; two parallel N-S scratches on the profile at the back of the mouth; two faded concentric scratches near the rim, below and behind the lower back of the bust; and a short gouge at the rim NE of the 0 in the date. Stage B adds a crack over the designer's initials; a curved scratch that leaves the bust's back and passes through the Y of LIBERTY at its upper right; another curved scratch linking LIBERTY's E (lower left) with the bust's lower back; and an E-W crack on the back of the forehead. On the reverse, Stage A has a strong gouge (dot) above the last S of STATES; a short N-S field gouge to the right of CENT's upper C; a fine scratch heading south from the second U of PLURIBUS at its lower left; a short N-S scratch within the A of STATES, in its upper left opening; a run of light scratches heading north from UNITED's U to CENT's lower C; and a NNW-SSE scratch between the N and E of ONE. Stage B adds a concentric scratch at the rim above the IBUS of PLURIBUS and a faded N-S scratch below the left side of the T's crossbar in CENT (Wexler calls it the vertical crossbar), while the dot above the last S of STATES is gone. John Bordner submitted Stages A and B. CONECA lists it as RPM #1 and Coppercoins as 1950S-1MM-001.
