1950-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-008

Description

Cataloged by VarietyVista, this San Francisco Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent tracks through four die stages documenting extended service. Die markers UVC-349 / DMR-010: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with obverse and reverse at MDS; Stage C with obverse and reverse at LDS; Stage D with obverse at LDS and a light die crack running from the right upper wheat grains to the rim at LDS. The Stage D die crack extending from the wheat ear design to the rim traces the final structural failure before die retirement. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin-zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1950-S had a San Francisco mintage of approximately 118.5 million cents. The four documented stages from EDS through the terminal wheat-to-rim crack make this variety useful for studying die progression patterns.
