Description

1949-D WRPM-019 is a repunched mint mark on the 1949-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/D Tilted (Rotated): the extra D is rotated relative to the primary. Obverse Stage A: a clash at the throat; a W-by-N/E-by-S scratch at the upper right of GOD's D; north-south scratches behind the lower head; and a very weak east-by-north crack over the V in the designer's initials. On Obverse Stage B the clash remains, the scratches are weaker, the crack above and right of the initials is longer, and a NW/SE crack appears low on the back of the jacket. Reverse Stage A: east-west scratches through and below PLURIBUS's second U, and light SE scratches from the lower right side of STATES' A to the left center of AMERICA's last A. On Reverse Stage B the PLURIBUS scratches show only at the top and bottom of the second U, chips appear at the lower right of CENT's T, and the STATES scratches are very weak. John Bordner submitted Stage A and David Mulberry Stage B. Wexler lists no cross-references.
