1948 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-039

Description

1948-S WRPM-039 is a repunched mint mark on the 1948-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S West: the extra S lies west of the primary. Obverse Stage A: a vertical scratch right of the chin; scratches running north from the top of the date's 1; and a short SSW scratch from under the nose. On Obverse Stage B all Stage A markers remain visible but weaker. Reverse Stage A: a SSE scratch from the top right of STATES' E. On Reverse Stage B the Stage A marker can still be seen, though weaker; new SSE scratches run from STATES' first S; and a crack follows the left wheat ear's left side, then turns to the rim at 9:30. Eric Axtell submitted Stage A and Daniel Griffin Stage B. Wexler lists no cross-references.
