Description

1948-S WRPM-037 is a repunched mint mark on the 1948-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S Tilted (Rotated): the extra S is rotated relative to the primary. Obverse markers: a series of vertical scratches running north from the upper 1 of the date; a clash right of the throat; vertical scratches running north above LIBERTY's RTY; short scratches from the upper hair, southeast of GOD's D; a series of diagonal scratches above the central collar; and light hash-marked scratches on the central shoulder fold. Reverse markers: vertical scratches between the L and U of PLURIBUS and ONE's O; roughly vertical scratches above the NE of ONE and behind CENT's C; a series of diagonal scratches through UNITED's N; a strong scratch through the opening of OF's O; and diagonal scratches through AMERICA's R and C. Brian Ribar submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler's comments note that this listing replaces the original WRPM-037 die, which turned out to duplicate WRPM-026.
