1948 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-028

Description

1948-S WRPM-028 is a repunched mint mark on the 1948-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S West: the extra S lies west of the primary. Obverse markers: a gouge running north from the top of the head into the field, ending below the space between WE's E and TRUST's first T; a gouge under the eye, on the nose; a scratch between LIBERTY's R and T running south into the field below; and scratches running north from the tops of LIBERTY's TY. Reverse marker: a field chip left of the upper left wheat stalk. David Bloomberg submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
