1948 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-026

Description

1948-S WRPM-026 is a repunched mint mark on the 1948-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S West: the extra S lies west of the primary. Obverse markers: clash marks under the chin, with slight clashing at the neck's back as well; a long northward scratch from the 1's top left, ending at the nose; and scratches running north from the top of LIBERTY's T. Reverse markers: small scratches between the top two kernels of the right wheat; north-south scratches over the whole reverse, the strongest heading north from ONE's O at its top left and south from its lower left through and to the right of CENT's C; a strong scratch running south from right of ONE's E; a scratch running south from the upper right of CENT's T; north-south scratches through the lower right wheat stalk; and a chip in the lower loop of STATES' last S. Brian Ribar submitted the variety and took the photo of the RPM; Tom Kalantzis took the die marker photos. Wexler lists no cross-references.
