1948 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-032

Description

The community of Lincoln Cent die variety specialists has devoted decades to cataloging repunched mint marks on popular postwar dates, and WRPM-032 on the 1948-D reflects that sustained collective effort. Attributed under Wexler Variety ID 1948-D 1¢ WRPM-032 by the Wexler Team, this variety identifies a working die bearing evidence of the D mint mark being struck more than once during die preparation. Die variety communities — organized through clubs, online forums, and attribution services — play an essential role, since individual collectors submit candidate varieties for peer review and formal cataloging. The collaborative nature of the process means that the 1948-D's thirty-two-plus RPM catalog represents contributions from numerous researchers over many years, each building on documentation left by predecessors. Denver Mint operations in 1948 consumed working dies at a pace commensurate with the era's strong economic output, and every die prepared for the 1948-D cent received its mint mark through the same hand-punch process that generated the repunching artifacts now cataloged by the Wexler system.
