1948 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-025

Description

A quarter-century of die-by-die documentation is reflected in the twenty-five RPMs cataloged for the 1948-D Lincoln Wheat Cent, and WRPM-025 continues that systematic record. The Wexler Team attributed this variety under Wexler Variety ID 1948-D 1¢ WRPM-025, identifying a working die on which Denver's D mint mark shows evidence of multiple punch applications producing overlapping impressions. Building a catalog of this depth requires examiners to compare each candidate against all previously documented entries, confirming that repunching characteristics — direction, distance, and secondary die markers — are distinct from every existing listing. This painstaking process ensures the catalog represents individual working dies rather than duplicating entries. The 1948-D cent circulated heavily through the late 1940s and 1950s, with many examples showing moderate to heavy wear, yet even well-circulated specimens can retain enough mint mark detail for RPM attribution if the repunching is pronounced. Collectors pursuing die varieties on affordable material find the 1948-D inviting. No additional cross-references beyond the Wexler system are listed for WRPM-025.
