Error
Description
Unlike common directional RPMs, this twenty-first repunched mintmark for the 1948-D Wheat Cent shows D/D Tilted (Rotated) — the punch held at a different angle during the second application. Die markers: obverse E/W scratches under GOD, NW/SE scratches above bow tie, circular scratch near rim above IGWT under bust toward L of LIBERTY; reverse die gouge between and above OF, die gouge under CA of AMERICA near right wheat stem. Attributed under Wexler Variety ID: 1948-D 1¢ WRPM-021, no other cross-references known. The tilted orientation makes this variety distinctive.
