1948 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-011

Description

1948-D WRPM-011 is a repunched mint mark on the 1948-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as D/D Tilted (Rotated): the extra D is rotated relative to the primary. Obverse Stage A: north-south scratches above LIBERTY's TY, with SW scratches below it; a long scratch running south from the bottom of LIBERTY's R; a medium-sized gouge (dot) in the field above the bowtie's right side; westward scratches from the bow tie out into the field; a short scratch over the bow tie; and scratches at the neck. On Obverse Stage B the Stage A markers are less crisp. On Obverse Stage C microscopic chips show in many areas, along with a general loss of crispness in the image. Reverse Stage A: a strong north-south scratch inside the lower E of ONE; a scratch running south through UNITED's U; and a NE scratch from the top of TRUST's last T, which Wexler lists among the reverse markers. On Reverse Stage B the Stage A markers are less crisp. By Reverse Stage C, abrasion has removed the dot between the E and P of E PLURIBUS. Paul Funaiole submitted Stages A and B, and Timothy J. Wissert Stage C. Wexler lists no cross-references.
