1947-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-002

Description

Second repunched mintmark for the 1947-D Jefferson Nickel, RPM-002 records a hand-punched displacement from Denver during the early postwar era. Cataloged by VarietyVista with codes UVC-355 and DMR-005, the variety was struck in 75% copper and 25% nickel — the standard composition resumed after the wartime silver alloy ended with 1945. Die progression spans four states: obverse EDS, reverse EDS, MDS, and LDS. The separate early die state records indicate independent condition tracking for each side, allowing attributors to identify die state more precisely. Felix Schlag's Jefferson design was in its ninth year at Denver, well established as a mature series. As RPM-002, this is the second most prominent repunched mintmark for the date. The postwar late 1940s saw Denver producing Jefferson Nickels in large quantities for a booming economy, and hand-punching ensured a steady supply of RPM varieties.
