Description

The 1946-S Jefferson Nickel RPM-003 carries a notable additional designation: the mintmark is classified as MMS-002, the Trumpet Tail style. The Trumpet Tail S — named for its distinctive flared lower serif resembling a trumpet bell — is a specific puncheon variant used at the San Francisco Mint, giving RPM-003 dual interest for collectors who pursue both RPM attribution and mintmark style varieties. Die markers are recorded as UVC-352 and DMR-005. Stage A is early die state but unconfirmed.
