1946 Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-017
Error
Description
A strong Class V CW spread from a pivot at about 11:00 shows on the date, designer's initials, bottom of the bust, IGWT, and the back of the neck. Slight doubling also shows on the LIB of LIBERTY and the top of the head. Die Markers: Obverse: Type I. Weak die clash mark at the brow and west of the eye on the nose. Die scratch SSW from the rim just touching the left-side horizontal bar of the T and running through the right lower leg of the R in LIBERTY into the field. N/S die scratch east of the earlobe. Series of N/S die scratches in the hair, east of the ear. Die scratch SW from the left lower B in LIBERTY to the chin. Reverse: The reverse of this variety has the doubling from the doubled reverse working hub identified as WWHR-001. SE die scratch from the upper F to the lower first A in OF AMERICA. Series of heavy die SE die scratches from the L of PLURIBUS to the N of ONE. Heavy series of die scratches throughout the oak leaves and branch. NNW die scratch from the PL of PLURIBUS toward the olive and olive leaf. NNE die scratch from the lower right side of the E in ONE.
