1946 Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-014

Description

1946 WDDO-014 is a doubled die obverse on the 1946 Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. A Class V clockwise (CW) spread from a pivot at 4:00 is clearest on LIBERTY, the nostril and the front of the hair. Obverse Stage A is Type II, with two short scratches running south from the lower left of LIBERTY's E. Obverse Stage B adds a gouge on the left center of the E's vertical bar in LIBERTY, a long scratch linking the lower forehead with the B's lower right in LIBERTY, and a gouge between the 1 of the date and the designer's initials. Reverse Stage A: in STATES a scratch runs south from inside the A's right leg; on the second T in STATES, a die chip sits low on the vertical bar, to the right; and an E/W scratch joins the top oak leaves to the flame. Reverse Stage B has irregular scratches running north from PL of PLURIBUS, across the olive and on to the lower left leaf. Joe Feld submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Its comments say it was formerly WDDO-034 and was renumbered when the doubled obverse working hub was found and left large gaps in the listings.
