1946 Roosevelt Dime - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-013

Description

1946 WDDO-013 is a doubled die obverse on the 1946 Roosevelt dime, cataloged by the Wexler team. The doubling is a close Class II spread toward the center, seen on the Y of LIBERTY and the designer's initials. The obverse is Type I. On the temple, east of the head, there is a gouge (dot). Small gouges and light scratches mark the left side of every letter in LIBERTY. A scratch runs NW from the upper right of TRUST's S, short scratches head NW from the left side of IN, a long N/S scratch lies west of the forehead, and light scratches sit under the 4 of the date. The reverse is itself a doubled die, carried in Wexler's doubled die files as 1946 WDDR-005. Its strong Class V clockwise (CW) spread, pivoting near 4:00, shows on UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, the flame's left side, the left leaves, E PLURIBUS UNUM, ONE DIME and the right leaves, with tripling on the lower AMER of AMERICA. Reverse markers: three scratches run NW off the upper acorn and into the leaf, a series of WNW/ESE scratches lies west of the lower olive, and light scratches run SE from the A of STATES through the upper flame.
