Description

Cataloged as DDO-026 (UVC-028, DMR-028) and cross-referenced as FS-103, this 1946 Roosevelt dime exhibits strong spreading on the date, designer's initials (top to bottom), and IN GOD WE TRUST, with lighter spreading on LIB of LIBERTY and the back of the neck. The obverse is ODV-001, and the reverse is separately listed as DDR-009 (FS-103/805). Four die stages are documented. Stage A is unconfirmed at early die state. Stage B at mid-die state develops a die clash on the bridge of the nose, with numerous N-S die scratches on the reverse. Stage C at late-mid die state shows a die crack from the torch bottom to the rim through the D of DIME. Stage D in late die state adds a crack northeast through the hair. The FS-103 listing and dual DDO/DDR pairing make this a major first-year Roosevelt dime variety.
