Description

Nineteenth doubled die obverse cataloged for the inaugural 1946 Roosevelt Silver Dime, this variety shows light spread on the date and designer John R. Sinnock's initials running top to bottom — a vertical displacement pattern indicating the hub shifted in a north-south direction between successive impressions during die preparation. Tracked under UVC-021 and DMR-021 in the VarietyVista system, the die state progression reveals: Stage A and Stage B remain unconfirmed, while Stage C exhibits die scratches on the nose in late die state with the reverse showing mid-die-state characteristics. The obverse is designated ODV-001, and the VarietyVista editor has noted that a specimen is needed for new color digital photographs — an indication that reference-quality imaging for this variety remains incomplete. The 1946 Roosevelt Dime launched the series that would become the longest-running active design in United States coinage, with Sinnock's portrait of Franklin D.
