1946-D Doubled Die Obverse DDO-001

Description

Struck in the first full post-war year of production, the 1946-D DDO-001 Washington Quarter displays medium spread on LIBERTY with the strongest doubling concentrated on the RTY, accompanied by light spread on the ribbon end. Cataloged as UVC-0609 with DMR-002, this Denver Mint variety progressed through three documented die stages: Stage A in early die state, Stage B where both obverse and reverse reach mid-die state, and Stage C where both sides exhibit late die state characteristics. The strongest doubling on the final three letters of LIBERTY makes this variety identifiable with moderate magnification, as the spread is most pronounced where the letters are spaced along the curved field near the rim.
