Description

Fifth cataloged doubled die reverse for the 1946-D Roosevelt Dime, DDR-005 presents a light spread on UNITED and ONE DIME. VarietyVista assigns UVC-051 and DMR-015, with the obverse identified as ODV-001. The reverse is also listed as RPM-016, indicating the D mintmark was punched more than once, creating overlapping impressions that provide a secondary attribution point. Stage C places both sides in Late Die State, indicating the coin was struck near the end of the die pair's service life. The 1946-D holds special significance as a first-year-of-issue coin: John R. Sinnock's Roosevelt Dime debuted in 1946, replacing Weinman's Mercury Dime to honor President Franklin D. Roosevelt, whose connection to the March of Dimes campaign made the denomination a fitting tribute. Struck in 90% silver at 17.9mm with Denver's D mintmark on the reverse.
