1946 (D) Jefferson Nickel - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-009

Description

1946-D WRPM-009 is a repunched mint mark on the 1946-D Jefferson nickel, cataloged by the Wexler team. The secondary D is tilted (rotated) relative to the primary (D/D Tilted (Rotated)). On the obverse, a NW/SE die scratch lies under the chin; short north-south scratches sit in front of the nose; NW/SE scratches lie behind the head; and short concentric scratches sit by the rim, spanning the stretch between 12:00 and the L in LIBERTY. On the reverse, short scratches extend SE from the rim above PLURIBUS; also, a gouge sits right of the last S in STATES. Brian Ribar submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
