1946 (D) Jefferson Nickel - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-001 / RPM-002

Description

Cross-referenced as FS-501, the 1946-D Jefferson nickel RPM-002, which Wexler numbers WRPM-001, is a repunched mint mark showing a D over an inverted (upside-down) D. Wexler writes the cross-reference FS-05-1946D-501 (031). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties records the mint mark as D/Inverted D and notes no die markers on either side. John A. Wexler submitted the coin, and CONECA lists it as RPM #2. VarietyVista credits Adolf Weiss with the report and also describes it as D/Inverted D. Under its marker codes UVC-346 and DMR-003, an early stage A is unconfirmed. At stage B, a late-middle die state on both sides, the repunching is not yet fully broken out in the center, and a light die scratch heads west out of the middle of the E in CENTS. At stage C the repunching is fully broken out and both sides are in a late die state.
