1945 Doubled Die Reverse DDR-002

Description

Cataloged as DDR-002 (UVC-0537, DMR-022), this 1945 Philadelphia Washington quarter shows light spreading on STATES OF AMERICA. Three die stages are documented. Stage A and Stage B are early and mid-die-state respectively, both unconfirmed for supplementary markers. Stage C in late die state exhibits die chips on the R and S of PLURIBUS, a die chip on the lower first A of AMERICA, a die crack down the eagle's right wing, a die crack across the forehead and hair, and a die crack across the bust. The 1945 Washington quarter was struck in 90% silver and represents the final year of wartime production. The light spread on STATES OF AMERICA requires magnification for confirmation, making the Stage C die chips and cracks essential secondary diagnostics. The eagle wing crack combined with the portrait cracks indicates widespread die fatigue by Stage C.
