1945 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark RPM-015

Description

Displaying a D/D Rotated CW displacement, this 1945-D Lincoln Wheat Cent from the Denver Mint was documented by VarietyVista. Die markers UVC-1113 / DMR-017 track three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B at MDS with two die scratches North from the nose and eyebrow halfway to the R of TRUST and the reverse at MDS; Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The paired scratches from Lincoln's facial features toward the motto provide a precise mid-life marker. At 95% copper and 5% zinc, 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1945-D was struck during the final year of WWII, in the copper-zinc alloy that replaced the 1943 steel. Clockwise rotation creates non-parallel D overlap with varying separation around the letter.
