Description

A D/D Southwest repunched mintmark on this 1945-D Wheat Cent was documented by VarietyVista with die markers UVC-200 / DMR-015. The die life develops significant late-stage cracking. Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with obverse and reverse at MDS; Stage C at LDS with a die crack in the hair, a die crack from the head to the rim through the first T of TRUST, and the reverse also at LDS. The head-to-rim crack through TRUST traces a dramatic fracture path from Lincoln's portrait through the motto to the coin's edge, documenting substantial structural failure. Composed of 95% copper and 5% zinc, weighing 3.11 grams with a 19.05 mm diameter. Struck at the Denver Mint in 1945, the final year of World War II. The southwest displacement indicates the initial D was placed northeast, with the corrective second strike shifting the final location southwest.
