Cataloged by VarietyVista, this Denver Mint Lincoln Wheat Cent RPM-011 documents the progressive disappearance of a secondary mintmark across die stages. Die markers UVC-198 / DMR-013: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with the secondary mintmark showing west of the vertical upright at MDS, a die clash from the N of CENT visible at the throat, and reverse at MDS; Stage C with the secondary mintmark visible only inside the primary mintmark at LDS and reverse at LDS. The attenuation from a distinct external secondary impression at MDS to an internal-only trace at LDS demonstrates how continued die wear absorbs the displaced feature. Struck in 95% copper and 5% zinc at 3.11 grams and 19.05 mm, the 1945-D was produced at Denver during the final year of WWII, when mint output remained elevated.
