1945-D Repunched Mintmark RPM-010

Description

Assigned UVC-197 and DMR-012, this 1945-D Lincoln Wheat Cent RPM-010 is a repunched mintmark variety of the bronze Lincoln cent — not a wartime nickel — struck in the standard 95% copper, 5% tin and zinc composition with Victor David Brenner's wheat ear reverse. Three die stages are recorded for this variety. Stage A is early die state, currently unconfirmed. Stage B is mid-die state, currently unconfirmed. Stage C is the most definitively characterized phase: the obverse is confirmed late die state, and a die gouge is present through the lower left of the O in OF on the reverse — providing a reliable late-stage marker. The Stage C die gouge inside OF is the key attribution anchor for well-worn examples where the mintmark repunching detail itself may be reduced.
