1945-D Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-012
ErrorDescription
WDDO-012 on the 1945-D Jefferson Nickel is a Class II Distorted Hub Doubling variety attributed by Jim Shriver, cross-referenced as CONECA DDO-008, and catalogued as Wexler Variety ID 1945-D WDDO-012. Class II doubling shows on IN GOD WE TRUST — the primary doubling target on the obverse — producing a distorted impression characteristic of this hub doubling class. The 1945-D was struck in the 35% silver wartime alloy at the Denver Mint, with the large D mintmark positioned above the Monticello dome. Several die markers accompany the attribution: a north-to-south die crack is present at the top of the head; a strong concentric die scratch runs along the rim from approximately the 6 o'clock position to the U in TRUST; and numerous northwest-to-southeast die scratches cross the field, with the strongest extending from the 19 in the date. Cross-reference: CONECA DDO-008; Wexler Variety ID: 1945-D WDDO-012.
