Description

Bearing the VarietyVista designations UVC-0424 and DMR-005, this 1944-D Washington Quarter DDO-004 shows light spread on IN GOD WE TRUST and on the upper portion of the digit 1 in the date. Struck in 90% silver at the Denver Mint during World War II, this variety represents one of the lighter doubled die impressions documented in the wartime Washington Quarter series. Stage C reveals a light die crack running across the base of the bust, indicating progressive die fatigue that helps collectors identify later-struck specimens from this die pair. John Flanagan's Washington portrait, with its fine detail in the hair and queue, provides areas where even subtle doubling can be detected under magnification, though the spread on IN GOD WE TRUST and the date are the primary diagnostic points.
