1944 (D) Washington Quarter - Variety WMDO-001

Description

1944-D WMDO-001 is a master die doubled obverse on the 1944-D Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A strong spread to the north appears on the E of WE, the lower ear and the underside of the nose. Because the doubling sits in the master die, Wexler says the markers differ on every working die, obverse and reverse. For the same reason, every quarter dated 1944, from all three mints, carries this doubling. John A. Wexler submitted it. CONECA lists it as MD-1-O-IV+VII.
