Error
Description
An S/S Northwest variety on the sole year of zinc-coated steel cent production, this VarietyVista-documented 1943-S Lincoln Wheat Cent awaits specimen submission for new color photos and die stage information. Die markers UVC-1114 / DMR-009 track three stages: Stage A at EDS (unconfirmed); Stage B with obverse at MDS, a die crack from lower right wheat to rim at MDS, and a die crack Southeast through E of E PLURIBUS; Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The two reverse die cracks — one through the wheat stalk and one through the inscription — document concurrent structural failures in different areas. Weighing 2.70 grams at 19.05 mm diameter, the 1943-S steel cent was struck at the San Francisco Mint during the wartime copper conservation period, and its unique magnetic composition makes it instantly recognizable among Lincoln Cent issues.
