1943 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-002

Description

Attributed as 1943-S 1¢ WRPM-002 by the Wexler Team, this San Francisco Lincoln wheat cent shows an S/S South repunched mintmark. The die carries extensive scratch diagnostics on both sides. Obverse markers include a long die scratch running NNW from the top right of the R in LIBERTY, a vertical scratch just left of the T's vertical bar in LIBERTY, and a scratch running SW to NE right of the lower N of IN, among numerous other scratches throughout. Reverse markers include a die scratch running SW to NE below the R in AMERICA, another SW to NE below the E in EPU, and a die crack running NNE from the tip of the left wheat ear, plus additional scratches throughout. The 1943 steel cent composition makes die scratches particularly visible because zinc-coated steel surfaces preserve fine detail differently than copper. The density of directional scratches across both sides creates a strong fingerprint for this die pair.
