1943 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-001 / RPM-001

Description

RPM-001, which Wexler numbers WRPM-001, is a 1943-D Lincoln wheat cent documented by VarietyVista with a D/D Southwest repunched mintmark. Both catalogs tie it to Cherrypickers listing 019: VarietyVista cites it as FS-101 (019) and Wexler as FS-01-1943D-501 (019). Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties, also describing D/D Southwest, lists obverse markers of a slanting gouge across the lower lapel, a group of scratches in the field below the bust, toward the rim, a short horizontal scratch to the mint mark's right, and a short, strong scratch running north from the upper forehead. On the reverse there is a wavy gouge between the A and M of AMERICA, a short NNE scratch from the top right of the first T in STATES, and a northeast scratch linking the N in UNITED with the C in CENT, with more scratches elsewhere on that side. Lloyd Hanson submitted it. Breen lists it as #2169, CONECA as RPM #1, Crawford as CRPM-001, and Coppercoins as 1943D-1MM-001, and Wexler notes that Brian Ribar took the die marker photos for the Wexler RPM Files. VarietyVista does not name a reporter. Under its marker codes UVC-135 and DMR-002, stage A has a scratch from the lower 9 of the date to the mintmark, with both sides in an early die state; stage B has a long scratch running south from the last T of TRUST, with both sides early-middle; and a late stage C is unconfirmed.
