1942-S Repunched Mintmark RPM-004

Description

Documented by VarietyVista, this 1942-S Wheat Cent carries die markers UVC-125 / DMR-006 with distinctive early-state diagnostics. Stage A at EDS reveals light southeast die scratches through the 1 of the date and a die gouge dot between the left wheat and the O of OF, both present from the die's earliest state. Stage B at MDS (unconfirmed); Stage C at LDS (unconfirmed). The die gouge dot between the wheat ear and OF is a compact but distinctive point marker aiding rapid die identification, while the southeast-oriented scratches through the date digit 1 provide a directional surface marker. Composed of 95% copper and 5% tin and zinc, weighing 3.11 grams with a 19.05 mm diameter. Struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1942 during the first full year of American involvement in World War II.
