Description

San Francisco Mint production of Lincoln Wheat Cents surged during 1942 as wartime demand for small change intensified, and the sheer volume of die pairs consumed across that year generated numerous mintmark punch varieties including WRPM-025. Attribution diagnostics on the obverse reveal a small NE/SW die gouge in the field below the B in LIBERTY, a marker that remains consistent across all known specimens. The reverse carries a die crack from the rim at approximately 4:00 running northwest to the center of the wheat grains, then turning upward and tracing lightly along the grain centers — a progressive crack pattern that may vary in strength depending on die stage. Additional reverse diagnostics include a die scratch inside the upper portion of the O in ONE running in a W/E direction.
