1942 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-024

Description

1942-S WRPM-024 is a repunched mint mark on the 1942-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S East, with the extra S east of the primary. Obverse Stage A has a vertical scratch below the T in LIBERTY and a circular scratch pattern on the bust, centered on the neck. A crack starts low on the bust, close to the bottom of the lapel, and runs WNW, passing well above the designer's initials and out into the field. On Obverse Stage B that crack is stronger. Reverse Stage A shows feeder finger die scrapes running north to south through the lower E of ONE. A crack starts on the upper wheat lines of the right stalk, runs south over the right kernels, then turns east at the third kernel from the end and ends at the rim. On Reverse Stage B the right-stalk crack is stronger, a second, smaller crack appears on the left-side kernels near the middle of that stalk, and a light crack runs south from the top left kernels of the left stalk. Paul Funaiole submitted Stage A and David Bloomberg Stage B. Wexler lists no cross-references.
