1942 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-023

Description

1942-S WRPM-023 is a repunched mint mark on the 1942-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S South, with the extra S south of the primary. Obverse markers: a die chip on the left end of the crossbar of the 4, and a crack that starts at the rim near 7:00 and runs NE, passing over the designer's initials before entering the bust. Reverse markers: a SSW-NNE scratch beside the upper right wheat ear, on its left; parallel scratches dropping south from the base of the C of CENT; a scratch from the N of UNITED, starting at its lower left, south through the O of OF; and a crack through the lower right kernels of the right wheat stalk. Paul Funaiole submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
