1942 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-020

Description

1942-S WRPM-020 is a repunched mint mark on the 1942-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S Tilted (Rotated), with the secondary S tilted relative to the primary. On the obverse, a gouge runs ESE/WNW through the designer's initials. Short scratches mark the bottom of the L in LIBERTY, and another scratch lies between the rim and the back of that L. Above the L, a long N/S scratch runs close to the rim, crossed by two smaller SW-to-NE scratches so that they form an X. On the reverse, a N/S scratch lies west of the upper C of CENT, and a short SW/NE scratch starts inside the lower O of ONE. A N/S scratch shows in the lower opening of the S of PLURIBUS, and again inside the upper loop of the R and between its legs. Very fine N/S scratches cross the field.
