1942 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-019

Description

1942-S WRPM-019 is a repunched mint mark on the 1942-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S/S South & Tilted (Rotated): the mint mark was punched three times, with one extra S to the south and another tilted (rotated). Obverse marker: a short scratch leaves the U of TRUST at its upper right. Reverse markers: a heavy crack starts at the rim at 10:00 and heads SSE along the wheat lines and the left grain of the left ear. Among the grains it splits in two, then exits at 8:30 and returns to the rim. A second heavy crack rises north from the rim at 4:30 and staggers on northward along the left grains of the right ear. A large die chip lies in the left side of the right ear, due east of the bottom of the T in CENT. Lloyd Hanson submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
