1942 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-003

Description

1942-S WRPM-003 is a repunched mint mark on the 1942-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S South, with the secondary S south of the primary. The Stage A obverse has a series of slanted scratches between GOD's G and O and between its O and D, and a short north-south scratch centered inside the D. On Stage B the Stage A scratches are nearly gone and the one inside the D is faint. On Stage C the secondary mint mark is weaker, at the center of the bottom. On the Stage A reverse a die break crosses the upper parts of the wheat lines on the left and upper left wheat stalk, and a crack heads NW from it to the rim, and a second, dot-sized die break sits just below. By Stage B that smaller break has grown into a crack that joins the upper break and runs on to the rim. Stage C shows NW/SE feeder-finger marks at the top of the left wheat lines. John Bordner submitted Stages A and B, and John Schmitt Stage C. CONECA lists it as RPM #2; the Coppercoins number is 1942S-1MM-002. Brian Ribar took the die marker photos for the Wexler RPM Files.
