1942 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-002 / RPM-001

Description

1942-S WRPM-002 is a repunched mint mark on the 1942-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team and by VarietyVista as RPM-001. Its obverse is the same die as the FS-101 doubled die (Wexler WDDO-001, VarietyVista DDO-001); Wexler cites the Cherrypickers number FS-01-1942S-101 (018.94) and VarietyVista FS-101/501. Wexler's Coins and Die Varieties describes the mint mark as S/S/S Southwest & West and notes that the obverse is a strong doubled die, the Wexler Doubled Die Files entry 1942-S WDDO-001. Its obverse markers are a scratch running southeast from the lower right of the first T in TRUST and a long northward scratch off the top of the R in LIBERTY. On the reverse there are two long parallel north-south scratches west of the T in CENT, two short northward scratches from the upper left of that T, and a short strong SSE-NNW scratch beside the top of the C in CENT, on its left. John A. Wexler submitted it. CONECA lists it as RPM #1, Coppercoins as 1942S-1MM-001, and Breen as #2161. VarietyVista, without naming a reporter, describes S/S/S Southwest with a serif and notes that the obverse is listed as DDO-001. Under its marker codes UVC-121 and DMR-002, both sides are early in stage A and middle in stage B, and a late stage C is unconfirmed.
