1942 Washington Quarter - Doubled Die Obverse WDDO-003

Description

1942 WDDO-003 is a doubled die obverse on the 1942 Washington quarter, cataloged by the Wexler team. A clockwise (CW) spread pivoting from about 1:00 shows on IN GOD WE TRUST, the date and the lower queue. On the obverse, a scratch heads ENE off the upper part of the I in LIBERTY. On the reverse, the eagle's right wing has a crack down it, a crack heads ENE off the back of the eagle's head, and a third crack starts under the F in OF and reaches the upper left wing beneath the AM of AMERICA. Kevin Flynn submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
