1942 (D) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-008

Description

1942-D WDDR-008 is a doubled die reverse on the 1942-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. The top of ONE's O shows a Class IV spread to the west. Obverse: a long scratch heading NNE from the top of LIBERTY's I, and gouges left of the eyebrow and at the middle of the back of the forehead. Reverse: a short scratch heading SW from the lower left of the E in EPU (E PLURIBUS UNUM); a short SW-to-NE scratch through the lower left of UNITED's N; long parallel NNW-to-SSE scratches through ONE's O to the top of CENT's E; and a short scratch heading NNW from the top of UNITED's D. Brian Ribar submitted the variety. CONECA lists it as 4-R-VIII; the Coppercoins number is 1942D-1DR-004. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
