1942-D Doubled Die Reverse WDDR-005

Obverse: Stage A: The obverse is a doubled die listed in the Wexler Doubled Die Files as 1942-D 1¢ WDDO-010. Doubling shows below the L in LIBERTY and left of the I in IN. Two faded die gouges show at the rim above the letters S and T in TRUST. A curving die scratch runs NE through the opening of the D in GOD towards the rim. A series of light, SW-NE oriented die scratches show on and behind the back of hair. Stage B: Areas of die deterioration show along the right edge of the 4 and 2 in the date. A faded die gouge shows below Lincoln’s chin. All other Stage A die markers are worn away. Reverse: Stage A: A die crack runs north into the field from the upper right edge of the right wheat tip. An area of die damage shows on the upper left wheat lines. An area of die damage runs through the second S in STATES. A faded NW-SE oriented die scratch shows between the lower E in ONE and the upper T in CENT. Stage B: The area of die damage through the last S in STATES is still visible but more worn. The area of die damage on the upper right edge of the right wheat tip is more worn, but still visible. Numerous die gouges show in the upper and lower openings of the N in UNITED. A die gouge (dot) shows inside the lower right opening of the O in OF.
