Description

1942-D WDDR-002 is a doubled die reverse on the 1942-D Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. E PLURIBUS UNUM shows light extra thickness. Obverse: a light diagonal scratch from the date's 1 to the chin; a tiny dot before the lips; a dot behind the bust's truncation; a short scratch from the rim near 8:00, well below LIBERTY's I; a dot below LIBERTY's R and two small dots above its B; and light vertical scratches above its TY. Reverse: a small dot in the upper right wheat tip; diagonal scratches in a series through CENT's T; a series of mostly horizontal scratches just above UNI of UNITED; a mostly horizontal scratch linking UNITED's D with the S of STATES; and a series of diagonal scratches through MER of AMERICA. Lou Coles submitted the variety. Wexler lists no cross-references.
