1941 (S) Lincoln Wheat Cent - Repunched Mintmark WRPM-009

Description

1941-S WRPM-009 is a repunched mint mark on the 1941-S Lincoln Wheat cent, cataloged by the Wexler team. Wexler describes it as S/S North, with the secondary S north of the primary. The mint mark is a Large S. Obverse Stage A: a dot-sized chip above the eyelid; two scratches under the chin, one ending at the bowtie and the other at the vest; a long N/S scratch on the right side of the date's 1; and a scratch inside the loop of LIBERTY's R, with a small scratch on that R's right side. Wexler detected no obverse markers on the circulated coins seen for Stage B and Stage C. Stage A uses the first reverse, with a N/S crack on the right wheat stalk whose southern end turns toward the rim and ends there. Stage B uses a second reverse; no markers were detected on the circulated coins seen for Stage B and Stage C. Lloyd Hanson submitted Stages A and C, and John Bordner Stage B. CONECA lists it as RPM #9; the Coppercoins number is 1941S-1MM-009. Brian Ribar took the photos for the Wexler RPM Files. Wexler includes it in its "Best Of" varieties.
